Radical Republicans wanted
The radicals thought Lincoln was way too easy on the South and wanted to overturn Southern their institutions and practices, they wanted to see the South rebuilt itself according to a new order.
Another way the reconstruction failed was by giving way to white supremacy groups. One white supremacy group that was created was the Ku Klux Klan in 1865. The Ku Klux Klan was created by six Confederate army veterans and it was appealing to many because it provided them a way to get rid of their anger for losing the war. The Klan's goal was to use violence such as riots and the killing of black Americans to reestablish white supremacy in the South. One of their main targets were African Americans and Freedman Bureau who was trying to help the African Americans by providing them homes and money.

They recognized that practicing slavery would kill the purpose of being a country built on freedom and revolution. Slaves believed in something similar, except they believed this to a higher degree. Naturally, slaves, being the ones who experienced slavery first hand, were willing to fight and die for freedom if it meant a chance at escaping a life of fruitless labor. Lastly, the Radicals did not fully realize the extent to which deep-seated racism in society would weakened the changes that Congress had attempted to make Furthermore, state Republican parties could not preserve black and white voter coalitions that would have enabled them to stay in power and continue political reform.
Radical Republicans are a coalition of northern representatives in Congress. The group’s goal was to protect and promote the interests of Black Southerners and to punish white Southerners for the Civil War. However, the president and Congress were not on the same page. After the war ended there was tension in the White House because black southerners could not vote yet and the southern white aristocrats came back to reclaim their seats. The Radical Republicans declared that the southern white did not have the right to say anything unless they sworn to the Union’s allegiance.
The Radical Republicans were a group of politicians within the Republican Party of the United States from around 1854 until the end of Reconstruction in 1877. These "Radicals" were opposed during the Civil War by the Conservative Republicans and by the pro-slavery Democratic Party. Preceding the war, the Republican Radicals were opposed by self-styled "conservatives" and "liberals" . Radicals were firmly against slavery throughout the war, and after, distrusted ex-Confederates and demanded harsh policies for the former rebels. They pushed for civil voting rights for the "freedmen"
After his death, some parliamentarians from the Republican Party emerged as new leaders of this era. They put forward their own proposals for the reconstructions. They were called Radicals. Each one of them had different agenda of reforms for the freedom of the African Americans. Three Famous Radicals: Basically these radicals had two point agenda.
The African American community was able to provide for their families and a sense of pride in their own work and send their kids to school. The government was looking for the best interest of the former slaves. On the other hand historians see that time in history as a failure. African Americans were pushed into political positions without the proper knowledge or training. The blacks were not place in a positon to succeed from the very beginning.

Most republicans believed the biggest obstacle for african-americans was the fact that they were not given a chance to really show how hard they can work, and they weren't put into the society fairly. “Some republicans even insisted that the real issues between the parties was not the slavery at all but the degradation of labor.” (Foner 1970, 62).
