World War I was an exponentially increasing war in tragedy and death. It established the positions of each imperial power and how they stand amongst others in battle. The events leading up to the war cannot compare to those that occurred during and even after this horrific war. However, it was truly the conditions of WW1 that fueled the entrance of the United States into WW1. The United States was justified entering World War I on the side of the Allies in 1917 due to three fundamental conditions: the type of government, the alliance system, and militarism.
World War One was a vicious four yearlong conflict that left few survivors in its wake, and devastated the world’s economy. The war commenced after the assassination of Austria-Hungary’s ArchDuke, Franz Ferdinand, and brought all the major European countries such as Germany, Italy, Great Britain, France, Serbia, Russia, and Austria-Hungary into the war. This was due to a system of alliances that linked the countries together, which forced countries even outside of Europe to join a war they had no part in, further escalating the problem. World War One was divided into two major alliances that fought against each other. As a result of Great Britain’s involvement, Canada was led into war as well, where Canadians distinguished themselves in battles
From the start of World War I in 1914 there were two different sides ,the Allied powers (which consisted of France Russia and Great Britain) ,and the Central Powers (Austria Hungary and Germany). The war began due to the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary. This assassination was the straw that broke the camels back ,as tensions were already high due to militarism imperialism nationalism and the gaining of allies. At the beginning of World War I United States had a policy of neutrality ,President Woodrow Wilson said (in the message to the Senate) "every man who really loves America will speak and act in the true spirit of neutrality". The United States was afraid of getting involved in World
War is raging on all fronts. The United States is holding true to its neutrality in World War I. As the war continues, growing suspicions creep into the households of everyday American people. The pressures of Germany are a growing problem for the United States. Germany ultimately forced the U.S. to declare war on them.
While the United States proclaimed itself as a neutral country in the beginning of the devastating first World War, many disagree with the statement that America wanted to remain neutral for various reasons. World War I began with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, then quickly escalated to division into two sides between European countries; including the Allied Powers, which consisted of Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and the Central Powers that included Germany, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria. Since the United States made it obvious they favored the Allied Powers before they entered World War I, the other countries against these nations took this friendliness between the countries and America as a threat and interference of war. This resulted in the Central Powers noticing an unfair disadvantage for themselves.
World War 1 was an atrocious war that caused millions of deaths and hundreds of billions of dollars in reparations. World War 1 lasted from 1914 to 1919 and rudimentarily, was the fight between the Allied powers and the Central powers. The Allied powers consisted of France, Great Britain, Russia, and Belgium while the Central powers consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire. All countries had some participation and damage done throughout World War 1, and the countries who started the war may be obscure. However, there are some countries that can especially be picked out for their contribution and cause for the war.
When World War 1 broke out in 1914, the United States attempted to remain neutral and was a strong advocate the neutral rights of nations. The U.S. liked to believe that the war was strictly a European conflict, but they would soon understand that they were inadvertently part of the war effort and entering war was inevitable. The U.S. was never truly neutral in the first place, but in fact supporting Europe the whole time. The reasons for breaking neutrality were more political and economic. It was the United States best interest to abandon its neutrality, and choose to go to war on the side of the allies for the future protection of American assets and welfare.
The main reason that America was being dragged into it was due to the fact both Great Britain and France were attacking the American trade ships because both Britain and France did not want any supplies reaching the enemy. So America was an innocent bystander that was caught up in someone else’s conflict. The problem with trying to sit down and talk this situation out is you would have to get Britain and/or France to care about the issues that they were causing us. Even though, many people believe the war would have been avoided had the word of the British ending the search and seizures of American ships gotten here sooner there were other things going on that would have continued leading towards war.
They didn’t want to get involved with the war with them,
So we helped Britain, France, Russia, and Italy. Although reluctantly at first, America was drawn into the European war. America would have loved to remain neutral. Americans were drawn in mainly for three reasons. The first reason was that the Germans crushed Belgium trying to get to France.
The United States was not neutral in World war one. Although the US did not join the war until 1917; when the war started in 1914, and they labelled themselves as neutral they subconsciously did things and made request that ultimately helped the Allied powers which were Great Britain, France, Russia, and Italy. A few examples of the actions that they took were the censoring of wireless news which only affected Germany because England still used cables, the searching for and arrest of Germans or austrians on American ships due to them being “neutral”. Another thing the United States did was the allowing of countraband on their ships as long as it was not signed to the government, which helped England but gave little t no help to Austria and
The United States didn’t enter the war until 1917 because of their policy of isolationism, but they entered because Germany sunk a British ship that had 128 American passengers on board, Germany sent Mexico a telegram trying to form an alliance, and America had loaned the allied powers lots of money and didn’t want to lose it if they lost. The United States also changed their foreign policy from isolationism to involved in world
involvement in the First World War had been driven by bankers and munitions traders with business interests in Europe (The Neutrality Acts 1930’s n.p.). this made the citizens of America relies that Europe was the main part of the world war one war. These findings fueled a growing “isolationist” movement (The Neutrality Acts 1930’s n.p.). I think this is one of the main reasons why the government passed the Neutrality Act in the first place to stay safe and away from Europe. After the United States had found out they steered clear of future wars and to remain neutral, by avoiding financial deals with countries at war.
Until the First World War broke out American still insisted that they shall not allied with any European powers and not involved in conflict. Although Washington put forward the famous isolationism, with the time went by, American diplomacy become were and more aggressive and expansionary the isolationism didn’t change at all. Since they have found a nation, United Stated never involved in European affairs, and isolationism was a tradition, which was accepted by congress and people. When American into a world power an unprecedented human disaster the First World War broke out, the war purely an imperialist was, due to isolationism, for most people in the United States, isolationism, for most people in the United states in the first world war like a bolt from blue.
The events of the Armistice Day and WW1 negatively affected the U.S. military in several ways, including: WW1 marked the end of isolationism, and the number of countless lives that were lost during the war, or on the Armistice Day because of unnecessary battles and fights that the American Army was involved in. Many historians believe that American isolationism ended when they joined the first world war because they broke the rule that they would not get involved in any war that did not involve or affect the country itself. “Germany's unfettered submarine warfare against American ships during World War I provoked the U.S. into abandoning the neutrality it had upheld for so many years. The country's resultant participation in World War I
