Alexander Hamilton was born on January 11, 1755 in Charlestown, Saint Kitts and Nevis. Alexander had a very tragic childhood, only to grow up to attend school at King’s College, create the First National Bank, and he was the first Secretary of Treasury. He was a very busy man.
Alexander Hamilton was the son of Rachel Fawcett Lavien and James Hamilton. At the time of his birth, Rachel was actually married to another man named John Lavien, but she left him. When Alexander was born, he already had an older brother, James Hamilton. James was born a year before Alexander. When Alexander was born, his father was in Scotland because of debt. As Secretary of Treasury, Alexander created the first National Bank. He also created The US Mint. This was where the first American coins were made. While Hamilton was Secretary of Treasury, he helped the government be able to pay its debts. Because of this, European countries were willing to do business with them. Most of America’s money came from farming. This made Alexander want to build factories, thinking it would make them more rich. He created a system to help people make, and sell, products to other countries. He also needed more ways to make sure the Federal Government had enough money. To help gain money, he made a task on whiskey. This made farmers and whiskey makers very angry. They started to rebel against the tax, creating the Whiskey Rebellion. Violence started to spread from Western Pennsylvania, to other states. There were even small battles taking place. To end this, Hamilton urged Washington to send troops down to the area of the Whiskey Rebellion, and ended the rebellion, once and for all.
During the time of the rebellion, the government started to split into 2 parties, and Hamilton led the Federalist party. Thomas Jefferson and James Madison led the Republican party. Jefferson and Hamilton argued about the foreign policy, so when France and England went to war, America did not choose sides. Even though they didn’t choose sides, they still traded with Britain, trying to maintain their friendship with them. They didn’t want to get involved with the war with them,
