Many different species of animals exhibit sexual selection; an example of this is the widowbird. The males of this species exhibit both intersexual selection, and intrasexual selection. At the beginning of breeding season males feathers will change from light brown to dark black, at this point they will also develop epaulets. The reason for this is that the dark black feathers along with long tail feathers will help to impress females. Studies have shown that females are more likely to chose to nest and mate with a male that posses longer tail feather.
