Violent video games have been around since the beginning of the video game era in 1940 with the creation of the computer, by Edward U. Condon, that plays the traditional game of Nim. This game was a fun, interactive game for everybody of all ages to play, but as time progressed video games began to evolve into something much more by adding violence. Some of these games today include, Mortal Kombat, Call of Duty, and Grand Theft Auto; where many of these companies have created multiple versions to create a better gaming experience. As parents go and buy these games for children as young as 4 to 5 years old, they don’t stop and think about how this violence could impact their child’s mental health. For example, when a child is in their early years, they learn to walk but watching other people do it and attempting to do it themselves. That same principle is also used in their minds when they are playing violent video games. When children are playing these games they are obtaining the information that is being shown to them and are going to want to attempt the actions in the game they are playing; such a in Mortal Kombat with all of those fighting techniques that are being shown, it encourages them to impersonate the actions of a specific character they like so they can feel connected to the characters and be just like them. They think that if you copy the character in as many ways as possible they will become the character. Basically violent video games opens a door in the minds of children that encourages them to act like the game because in the fantasy world it is perfectly fine for things like that to happen. With this thinking, future opportunities could begin to decrease as the child becomes more violent as they grow
