Firefighters are well trained rescuers who put out fires, and save lives.
Why do Firefighters risk their lives and do what they do? As of 2014 there were 1,134,400 firefighter jobs, and of those jobs %69 were volunteers. Firefighters are your typical everyday citizen, and volunteers go about their lives the same as you do. Firefighter’s are primarily responsible for responding to fires, accidents and other incidents where risks are posed to life and property. Firefighter's usually work in shifts and rotate workers, they work 24 hours at a time. They work and live in the firehouse and when they are not working they live their normal lives. Firefighter’s do their jobs to protect the citizens of their town, they want to ensure the citizens are safe and feel safe. Do they deserve more money for putting their lives on the line? More than 93% say that Firefighters are underpaid. Many firefighters feel they are underpaid for the challenging and life threatening work they have to face. More than 69% or around 788,250 are unpaid volunteers . Many Fire Departments recruit volunteers to work unpaid and do the same job as a paid firefighter. All volunteers should atleast be paid on how many hours they put in or be given full-time or part-time jobs at their departments. Although they get tax reimbursements, it’s not the same as a
