Miramar Fire Rescue Department

A community assessment is a tool that can be used to evaluate what a community has to offer to its residents. It also discusses the needs and gaps in services within a community, which can be done by evaluating the organizations that are within that community. The goal of this paper is to assess the community of Miramar Florida. It is a city located in Broward County. Miramar was incorporated on May 26, 1955 (Miramar, n.d.). It was founded by A.L Mailman, he purchased the land from H.D. Perry Sr. (Miramar, n.d.). During this time, most cities were expanded or created for different forms of transportation, but Miramar was founded to serve as a bedroom community for the neighboring Ft. Lauderdale and Miami residents (Miramar, n.d.). When

During times of need the city provides support to its residents. It has a fire rescue department that was established in 1955, there are now four fire stations in Miramar (Miramar Fire Rescue Department, n.d.). The fire department has an annual toy drive, safe place for kids, which provides a youth outreach and prevention program for young people in need of immediate help and safety (Miramar Fire Rescue Department, n.d.). They also have a safe haven for newborns, where they reach pregnant girls and women before they reach a stage of crisis (Miramar Fire Rescue Department, n.d.). They provide CPR/AED classes, a program called kid’s corner, which educates Miramar children about fire prevention (Miramar Fire Rescue Department, n.d.). The fire department also has a program CERT, Community Emergency Response Team, it educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills (Miramar Fire Rescue Department, n.d.). The fire station also has certified car installation technicians (Miramar Fire Rescue Department, n.d.). There is also a police department, it offers a citizens on patrol program, where volunteers are trained to patrol their communities, a citizens’ police academy, which is a series of classes that educates the public about police operations within the city (Miramar Police Department, n.d.). The hospital is located in West Miramar, West of I-75, so residents that live in East Miramar will have a long commute to get there. Memorial Hospital Miramar has the opportunity to expand to accommodate the growing population in Miramar. It currently has a global health policy, where it provides personalized coordination of specialized and emergency medical services for adult and pediatric international patients (Memorial Hospital Miramar, n.d.). It has the opportunity to grow in its global health policy, especially with the many awards it received, and coordinate care to more international patients. As with any hospital, there can always be a threat at Memorial Hospital Miramar. Hospital doors are open to anyone, and that can pose a threat if a person intends to harm others.
