Why Do Humans Have Too Much Power

Over the course of humanity, humans have causing conflict with one another. Blood is spilt on the battlefields everyday due to war. War however, can’t just happen on its own; one must have the power to cause it, which eventually will show that humanity is evil when given too much power. Humans, in general, when given the opportunity to have power, will make poor choices and result in becoming tyrants or dictators. For example, when King George III was appointed and given high power to rule over the thirteen colonies, he misused his power by imposing high taxes and tariffs on imported products without consulting his people. This, in turn, caused the colonist to disapprove of his leadership and call for independence, resulting in the American Revolutionary War. King George III believed that …show more content…

Jack’s character from Lord of the Flies by William Golding, demonstrated how he used his power to harm others when; “The Chief was sitting there, naked to the waist, his face blocked out in white and red. The tribe lay in a semicircle before him. The newly beaten and united Wilfred was sniffing noisily in the background” (Golding, 160). Jack used his power to violently assault a kid named, Wilfred while the boys spectated the whole violent scene. Due to these actions however, Jack ends up being seen as a volatile leader. Another person with absolute power to harm other is General Zaroff. General Zaroff lives in an environment, known as Ship Trap Island, where here on the island he is supposedly the one in charge. When Rainsford comes ashore to Zaroff’s island, Zaroff tells Rainsford, “ I wanted the ideal animal to hunt, it must have courage, cunning and above all, it must be able to reason.” Zaroff hints to Rainsford that he thirsts for hunting humans due to the boredom of hunting animals.
