Major college football and basketball programs bring in millions of dollars a year for their university and the NCAA. Many people claim the players are the reason these programs make so much money and should be compensated for their work. At first this seems to be logical, but there are many flaws with paying athletes. However, athletes should be able to pursue business opportunities. College athletes should not be paid for playing sports, but should be able to have an outside income.
Well they are actually about the same when playing football 1 in every 100,000 participants die on the field (Barry P. Boden). In the military it is actually a little bit higher at 1 in every 107,692 people die. This is not statistically significant, but it is important to note that the fatality rates are about the same between the two professions. Why should an athlete that has worked their whole life to get to the point where then are now be paid less. At the end of the day all professional athletes are not only athletes, but they are entertainers.
Soldiers should be paid more than athletes. Soldiers are the reason why we are safe because they protect us. Any person that fights for our country should get paid more than athletes . Soldiers get paid 1,531.50 dollars a month people with more experience the higher their pay increases . But athletes make 491 million dollars each season.
Another reason college football players shouldn’t get paid is that they aren’t professional athletes.
The debate over whether or not college athletes should be paid has really heated up over the past couple of years. Imagine you are a college athlete; your typical daily routine would consist of an early wake up, an early morning practice, classes and tutoring sessions, and another practice or workout. Oh yeah, you have to fit in time for 4-5 meals to maintain energy throughout such an exhausting day. Athletes have to follow this routine all year long making it impossible to obtain a job to earn money. All of this hard work and time leads to success on and off the field but it also leads to enormous profit for the NCAA.
Have you ever thought why college athletes should get paid? Paying them in college might help them later in life. Paying them will help them save up their money on stuff they need later in life. Paying the athletes will help benefit them and the college and organization. I think college athletes should get paid cause because the college makes money off of them.
In the articles, “Should College Athletes be Paid” by Joe Nocera, “Should College Football Players Get Paid”, “Compensation for College Athletes”, and “Should College Athletes Be Paid to Play” by Kenneth Cooper, they explain the benefits and drawbacks to paying college athletes. Because colleges, coaches, and programs receive an outstanding amount of money, they should be able to get paid for their efforts. In fact, Coaches and NCAA get rich, while the athletes get nothing. The college athletes are responsible for the money NCAA and coaches receive, but they do not even get a penny for their hard work.
College athletes put in a lot of time, effort, and work into the sport they’ve played since they were young, but they aren’t getting paid for it. These student athletes deserve to be paid because they put in countless hours of hard work and balance sports with school work. The first reason athletes in college do deserve to be compensated is because they don 't have time to fit in work with a school and athletic schedule. College athletes don’t have time to get a real job. Student athletes have a very busy schedule, they don’t have time to fit in a job.
Should a person get paid just for showing up for there a job and not actually doing anything? Should they also get paid the same amount even if another co-worker is better at their job? Just because someone shows up and participates, doesn’t not mean they deserve the same treatment as everyone else. Some parents and athletes believe equal playing time for all sports and activities is deserved all through their middle school and high school careers. However, earning your position, being undeserving of playing time, and coaches trying to win in their respected program are all issues that need to be thought of before people begin fighting for equal playing time.
College athletes already get their education free why should they get paid for playing a sport they love playing. What do you think, should college athletes get paid for playing the sport there in? Well I don’t think so and in this paper I will tell you and give you reasons why they shouldn’t be paid. College athletes are already getting a free education they shouldn’t be allowed to be paid. My topic is why college athletes shouldn’t get paid.
People know that doctors and firefighters save lives, while athletes play a game to make money. Even teachers pay isn’t anywhere near to athletes; they educate the generation’s youth so they can make a difference in the future. So many jobs that are very important don’t get paid as much and that money can go towards better causes. But these are only some of the reasons that pro athletes get paid too much.
There could be a policeman with an entire family, and an athlete will make more than them in one paycheck, while that family is making significantly less in 10 years. These reasons prove that more important jobs deserve to get paid more than athletes. Now. some athletes spend their money responsibly.
Professional athletes are extremely overpaid for the “jobs” that they do. They only entertain for a living and get paid millions of dollars per season. Each sport is different in how they pay their athletes, and the difference in salaries from one player to another can be in the tens of millions of dollars. These athletes are paid for jobs that they only do for a certain number of games and do not even play the games over the course of an entire year. In most professional sports, they play in games for only a few months and then have a few months off.
Athletes - Paid for Their Worth Most people think that athletes are overpaid and see huge contracts come out every year. It’s not everyday that an athlete wakes up to a 20 million dollar contract. In fact, they actually worked for it over many years of training and dedication. Pro athletes are paid exactly what they deserve because they work hard and sacrifice more than most people think. It's not just businesses paying them; people do things like buy merchandise, tickets to the games and support their favorite teams while the athlete does the “dirty” work of performing.
