What is fate? Fate is believing things will happen according to God’s Plan, no matter what the circumstances are. Although God does have a plan for us he created us to have free will therefore we have a personal choice to follow God’s plan or to choose our own path. Many Romantics would argue that it was fate that brought Romeo and Juliet together and fate that had them fall in love. If this is their belief, they may also believe that it was their fate to die. I on the other hand believe that God allowed their paths to cross so that they had the free will to fall in love and they chose who they were going to fall in love with. They also chose the circumstances of downing those fatal pills. Therefore it is my strong belief that Romeo and Juliet committed suicide and God had nothing to do with that. …show more content…

On the night that Juliet’s parents were throwing a party Romeo chose to attend. Romeo decided, “I’ll go along.”(Shakespeare 193) This was to go against his parents wishes and follow his own path that led him to meet Juliet on that evening. If it was God’s path then Romeo would not have had to disobey his parents. It wasn’t fate that took him to that party; it was his personal choice to disobey his parents. After Juliet found out her parents’ plans for her, her so called fate according to her parents. Capulet decides to marry Juliet to Paris without her consent, “Thursday is near, lay hand on heart advise an be mine, I’ll give you to my friend.” (Shakespeare 178).
