Is it time to get rid of the American tradition of school sports? In the article, “Yes, It’s Time to Scale Back” the author Amanda Ripley expresses how sports are harmful to the students and school funds. However, in the article, “No Sports Are More Important than Ever” by Tim O’ Shei discusses how school sports benefit students. The article, “10 Reasons Why High School Sports Benefit Students” by Grace Chen also backs up why school sports are important. School sports are a reason for failing grades; on the other hand, there are many positive benefits to having them in schools.
I think that if the school cut all the sports programs that everyone who plays them would get really mad. And not only the players would be mad but the fans and people that like to watch them would also be very upset. This is why I would be for it because the players already whine enough but if they got there sports taken away we would never here the end of it. So that and also the money made for the sports program alone makes most of our schools money from people paying to get into the games. Some of the other reasons that the school should not cut the sports program is that’s how the school makes most of its money and they can’t save if they don’t have money coming in.
School administrators have been debating whether to keep, or end after school athletics. Due to sport suspension, more students have successful grades. Therefore, schools should suspend sports in order for students to improve grades, to reduce costs, and adjust American academics. As educators know, students should focus on schoolwork instead of sports to improve their grades. For example, in the fall of 2012, Premont Independent School District had 80 percent of students pass their classes compared to 50 percent the previous semester (Ripley 10).
High School Sports Should be Funded Every year 300,000 students are participating in sports (Gould 1). The School District has been funding the athletics program, which has been benefiting many of the students’ lives for several years. The discontinuation of high school sports will cause many students to loose the health, social and educational benefits provided by participating in athletics. The School District should continue to fund sports because they benefit students.
The stress can get so intense, it feels paralyzing. That’s why it is important than ever for schools to invest in their athletic programs,” states the sports article “Should Schools get rid of Sports.” Schools should keep their sports programs because they help improve academics, help improve mental and emotional health, and improves social skills like being on a team. Schools should not get rid of their sports programs because they help with student’s academics.
A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry is a play set in the 1950s in Southside Chicago that uncovers the struggles of a black family. The play reflects the challenges and obstacles faced by the family as they try to fulfill their dreams and overcome the racial discrimination of the time. One of the central conflicts in the play is between Mama and Walter, the matriarch, and the head of the household in which their differing perspectives on how to use the insurance money they receive from the death of Walter’s father. The conflict comes from a generational gap of perspective and the different understandings of success in a tough American society in the 1950s The main source of conflict between Mama and Walter is their differing perspectives
Sports should be gotten rid of because it will save schools more money for school related activities like cleaning up around the school. One reason schools should get rid of sports is it will save schools lots more money. The Superintendent Ernest Singleton canceled all sports and realized he could save 150,000 dollars in one year. It proves my point because it does save more money for the schools.
Sport in high school shouldn’t be taken away because it allow new students to make friends a lot easier. If we didn’t have sports in schools then there wouldn’t be professional sports anymore because the kids won’t be able to practice and not every kid has money to buy a ball or net and basketball hoop. It helps the student’s grades in classes because if they have low grades in one class they can’t play the sport so they try their hardest to raise the grade so they can play the sport. This is why I think they shouldn’t take away sports in high schools.
Suspensions don’t work so it common sense that we should fix the problem. I have seen kids at my school get suspended and come back even messed up than they were before. Schools should not suspend kids anymore because there are better ways to help them, some kids parents don’t punish them, and kids don’t like school anyways. Schools should not suspend students because there are better ways to help them.
