Media that could reflect the real America should be based on diversity of views, pluralism of opinion as the American society. First of all, when someone provides the truth of the actual situation, that person is automatically called a “whistle blower”. There are not many of those people, which are willing to expose all secrets that would benefit the society by finding out the actual story. As Goldberg elaborates in his insider book, danger is a big risk factor to them, losing a job for example, takes a lot of courage or foolishness to do that. Goldberg states that it should be normal common sense for the media give accurate information, which surprisingly does not happened in
Without investigative reporting and a free press, the general public is left in the dark, only to be told certain things media outlets wish to talk
Freedom of expression is one of the laws the forefathers of America made to empower its citizens and also enables them to live in peace amongst themselves. In most countries around the world, freedom of expression does not exist, so there is always war in those countries. In the article “Why the First Amendment (and Journalism) Might Be in Trouble”, the authors, Ken Dautrich, chair of the Public Policy at the University of Connecticut and John Bare, who is the vice president for strategic planning and evaluation at the Arthur M. Blank Family foundation in Atlanta, conducted a research study on the importance of freedom of speech. They used their research findings to support freedom of expressions. They employed claim of policy, claim of fact and also appeal to pathos and logos in their argument of the importance of the freedom of speech.
The media is a major source of information for voters. Voters depend on the media to make their decision on who to support and vote for. As much trouble as the media causes, they play a major role in our political system. The American President accurately depicts the political process.
The piece on Salon.com, "The Death of the News", written by Gary Kamiya, had many interesting points to make about the state of the media today. In the article, Kamiya expresses grave concern over the struggles facing print journalism, specifically the fact that if newspapers go, it is likely that on-the-ground reporting will disappear as well. This is due to the fact that online sites don't do their own reporting because it is not financially feasible. Rather, these sites take stories from the print newspapers and then put their own spin on it.
Mandated Reporters are persons who, as a result of their profession, are more likely to be aware of abuse or neglect of persons with disabilities. Mandated Reporters are required by law to report cases of suspected abuse to the Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC) when they have a suspicion that a person with a disability is suffering from a reportable condition of abuse or neglect. Other persons who are not mandated to report may choose to file reports of suspected abuse. Who are Mandated to Report?
The availability of mass media in the United States has grown throughout the last few decades. The media serves the vital function of informing citizens about political issues, yet there are certain media effects, like slant and framing, that can help political elites manipulate people by using mass media as a tool. Despite the dangers of media effects, mass media still does a good job of informing citizens about important political issues such as the Watergate scandal, Abu Ghraib, and the legalization of same-sex marriage. The Federal Communications Commission is an independent agency put in place by way of a congressional statue in which gives them the authority to regulate interstate communication.
If you look back to the founding of our country you can see that we have fought war after war to protect are ability to have a first amendment right. Wouldn’t you say that it is a pretty important issue if we are willing to send millions of men and women to fight, and potentially die, for its cause? The first amendment is important because without it there are ghastly consequences. Just look at countries that don’t have the option to speak freely, such as China or North Korea. In these places they are people who constantly have to live in fear about saying the wrong thing to the wrong person.
First, the media can easily persuade the American people to think what they want for instance; in the movie Wag the Dog they make the public believe that they really are at war when everything they are showing is fake (movie). “The vast majority of journalists at these major outlets are generally liberal” and so if they are liberal they will write what they think about the situation (Washington Examiner). By them doing that they get all the American people to believe what they believe. “Some claiming that there is no such thing as media bias and that the republican candidates were just upset about the tough questioning” which is really just another one of the writers opinions. If they
These are the obvious faults that can be seen in the topic of media bias, the media only shares what they want us to, know, more of keeping people on a need to know basis in the United States, the many faults of the media can be seen by the public, regardless of gender, beliefs, political party, this biased information that is being fed to the American people and nothing is getting done about because more people are getting skeptical of if as distrust of the media increases yearly, something needs to change about this so that people know the truth, not force fed lies by the
I have come to realize that the media has always sided what was popular to the public. Though in some cases I’m sure there have been some influencing through monetary means and under the table deals. Nonetheless the media actually served as a counter argument to my thoughts and actually helped me remembered in why I vote for what I vote for. As you can see from most of the media in the last 6 years it has served towards democrats and more government interference. Now don’t get me wrong things like the patriot act are necessary for the safety of our nations
When thinking of the media you think they are reporting the appropriate and accurate information not based on any personal opinions and feelings. Also one would not think the media would be reporting based on one side of politics or the other. The media is extremely biased when it comes to politics and news. While some of the media is conservative-biased I believe the mass media is liberal-biased. Majority of media outlets are liberal companies, media personnel and journalists will identify themselves as democrats and liberals more so than republicans or conservatives and lastly the left side (liberals) of the mass media is persuasive on what information to report.
Media bias is a real problem. When people are not aware of the facts alone, rather interpretation of facts, they are being manipulated. Media should report facts concisely and promptly with as much accurate information as possible. When networks allow to dictate how they report news, there is a much greater chance to be biased. When networks accept monetary incentives to report in a specific manner, there is a much greater chance to be biased.
My opinion on this situation is that media is overpowered and if it was an official branch congress would have to even out the powers in order for it to work in a reasonable and controlled way. However it becoming an official branch is highly unlikely and will most likely never occur. I do feel that propaganda is taking over the aspect of being free and interrupting your political mindset on issues. Overall I think the media’s powers should be evened out and intertwine other positive aspects into their work rather than
A media source which ignores or censors important issues and events severely damages freedom of information. Many modern tabloids, twenty four hour news channels and other mainstream media sources have increasingly been criticized for not conforming to general standards of journalistic integrity. In nations described as authoritarian by most international think-tanks and NGOs media ownership is generally something very close to the complete state control over information in direct or indirect ways. Undesirable consequences which occur due to media imperialism are: • Commercially driven ultra-powerful mass market media is primarily loyal to sponsors i.e. advertisers and government rather than to the public interest.
