Criminals around the globe should be punished for their unimaginable crimes. They should be penalized harder than what they are receiving for crimes such as taking someone else's life and it should be taken into consideration especially here in America. Where increasingly mass murders been happening lately. Of course, it could be due to poor gun control laws and the system, but having the capital punishment in place does serve as an assurance that they use their guns carefully and not on innocent people where then they could go to prison and get sentenced to death for killing someone. Keeping the capital punishment in place could lower the increasing occurrences of brutal heinous public mass murders. Lately, there have been multiple mass shootings in America which resulted in hundreds of innocent lives. For example, recent mass murder shootings such as Texas church shooting, mass shooting in Las Vegas, and mass shooting in Plano, Texas stands as a proof (Gun Violence Archive, 2017). There is no stopping to this unless something powerful such as a law is in place to stop these mass murderers. According to Michael Summers, Ph.D., MBA, Professor of Management Science at Pepperdine University, said that in the article “Capital Punishment Works” (2007), “analysis of his research revealed that each execution seems to be associated with 71 fewer murders in the year the execution took place”. There is a dramatic relationship between the number of executions carried out and a comparable reduction in the number of murders. According to Nick Gillespie who is an American journalist said, “Consider that between 1980 and 2012, California spent $4 billion administering death penalty cases while actually executing just 13 individuals.” However, the fact is that it actually costs more to keep the criminals in prison for the rest of their lives. It was reported by Marc Santora (2013) who is an American journalist that the New York City paid about $168,000 to feed, house and guard each inmate in 2012. According to New York State (2016), the New York City had over 12,000 inmates resulting in $2,016,000,000 of cost in 2012. If the criminals are sentenced to death then the cost amount could go higher and higher which depends on how long they live and if there is not something such as the death penalty is in place. Inmates could possibly rise over the years resulting in hundreds of jails in need of more employees and more money needed to be spent on the inmates so they can be fed and get taken care of by doctors whenever they need to
