Why Does Cellular Respiration Occur

528 Words3 Pages

Cellular Respiration occurs throughout your body and mainly occurs on the mitochondrion. But cellular respiration doesn't just occur to us humans , almost all organisms undergo cellular respiration. It can also be known as aerobic respiration. Cellular respiration is very important for organisms due to , the materials the organisms produce when it goes through them, the way it helps them and what it causes after it occurs. Some good questions to ask are like what causes it to happen , when and where does it happen, what would happen if it somehow disappeared, or maybe who discovered it. Some reactions of Cellular Respiration begin on the cytoplasm but most of them occur on the mitochondria. But for these reactions to occur the Cellular Respiration must go through some steps. First it starts off in the glycolysis ,that is where glucose is broken down to create acid molecules. Then it moves on to the Krebs Cycle which is where the molecules are broken down more and energy in the molecules are used to form a compound more …show more content…

Cellular Respiration converts the energy stored in sugars to high energy molecules called Adenosine Tri-Phosphate (ATP). Also if it stopped it would affect the cell in different ways too. The ATP will increase significantly, the glucose breakdown would increase significantly, the glucose breakdown would suddenly come to a stop or cease, and last the cell would have to use water for energy. Another reason it is important is because it provides energy for living organisms to perform all the other necessary functions to maintain life. But some single celled organisms like bacteria do not require much energy and are able to survive on glycolysis and fermentation. If cellular Respiration does not occur then the level of oxygen present in the cell will get decreased as a result the cell can die due to a lack of
