Macromolecules are the most important compounds in your body. If you didn’t consume the necessary nutrients to make these macromolecules, or were not able to synthesize these macromolecules, you would not be alive. Carbon is the base of all of these macromolecules, and the carbon skeleton is the most important part of the macromolecules, because if carbon did not have such a unique bonding capability, you would not be able to synthesize such complex and diverse molecules. When you eat food, it has certain nutrients specific to that type of food. However, there are four macromolecules that are in all living organisms, and we need them to live. When you consume carbs, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids, your body breaks them down and uses the …show more content…
In cellular respiration, your body uses glucose and oxygen in a process to make energy. The glucose is split in the cytoplasm of your cell, then its atoms go through a complex process which turns them into ATP, a useable energy source for your body. ATP can either be used, or stored in lipids for long term use. Lipids are one of the most diverse macromolecules because of the many functions they can perform. They make up a cell membrane, so without them, there would be no humans, they also can be used as a long term energy storage in the form of fat. The monomers of lipids are fatty acids and glycerol. When lipids bond with phosphorous, it creates a phospholipid, which is what is used to create your cell membranes. Nucleic acid is very important because it determines who you are. If there weren’t nucleic acids, we wouldn’t be able to have children because there would be no way to determine their genetics. Nucleic acids are also very good to eat because they contain phosphorous and nitrogen, which are also in other macromolecules. The way plants are able to provide the entire food chain with nucleic acids is that because of the phosphorous and nitrogen cycle, it is able to absorb these two elements and create its own nucleic
