When I found out that Malala Yousafzai was shot in Pakistan by the Taliban for demanding educational rights for women, I was shocked. Being a female myself, I felt horrible because she was shot over the basic civil right that I have and take for granted every single day. But I also felt empowered because I knew that I could make a difference as an educator. However, the key to becoming a good, impartial educator is to explore other cultures and languages. That is why I choose to study abroad with AIFS at Richmond University in Rome. This study abroad program will help me gain a meaningful experience that will positively impact my future career as a teacher by giving me the chance to immerse myself in another culture and language.
While I am studying abroad in Rome, I will be staying in an apartment next to the Pantheon and Piazza Navona to further my knowledge of the culture and language. Rome was once the capital of the great Roman Empire and was once called home to some of the most influential people in history, like Michelangelo and Julius Cesar. Even though time passes and continues to change the world around us, Rome somehow found a way to stand the test of time and keep up in today’s changing times.
