There needs to be a solution in stopping the Boy Scouts organizations themselves from dying out, but one solution the Scouts should start on would begin on solving the issues of gay scouts being banned and the camp's closing down. The first thing that should be done with the Boy Scouts organization is getting rid of the ban on gays, which would happen by a separation of church and state. The majority of Boy Scout units are ran or even owned by Christian churches or church organizations. Many of these church organizations believe that Christianity teaches you to look down upon or neglect homosexuals; therefore, these churches would want the same for the Scouting units that they own. The manpower behind the separation would have to be the will of the unit to split off from the church. A short term problem that could occur to this plan are scouts who decide to leave the unit due to the unit leaving the church. There may be scouts whose loyalty lies with the church more than the unit. A short term benefit for this can be easing the tension towards gays that want to join scouting, because we’re creating a divide between the churches and the scouts. A segment of the population that may be negatively affected by this plan could be the churches themselves. The churches may lose members as well seeing how they would be divided from the scouting population.A segment of the population that may be positively affected would be families with homosexual children that want to join the scouting program. Now that the churches do not control the rules in many units, they can accept gay scouts. The long term benefit to this solution is what would solve the problem of declining numbers in scouts, higher recruitment. Now that gays would be allowed in scouts, more youth and adult leaders can
