Choosing My Own Path
(Once you have completed your education, would you return to your hometown to begin your adult life? Why or why not?) I’ve always been excited for college. Since I was a kid, I loved the idea of being independent and on my own, learning what I want to learn and making/doing things that I want to make/do. Therefore, college is a perfect idea for me. Not even just college, but a college that isn’t necessarily in my hometown or state. I want to go to college for music, voice and/or music education specifically. Music is usually something where you can’t just work in a small, unknown area to get around. You’ve got to network and make yourself known. I’ve gone to plenty of summer music camps at plenty of different colleges, and while some colleges in Iowa look nice to me, my favorite colleges are all out of state. My town is kind of small. I like having lots of opportunities at hand, but in my town there aren’t many.

That’s why I don’t think I would return there after college. I know I’ve made many memories here, and it will be nice to return to for a little while, but I think that’s the exact reason I shouldn’t stay there. In my hometown, everyone knows everyone and there aren’t many opportunities. If I travel and go somewhere where I can be known for voice, I can achieve more than I ever thought was possible in my small hometown. I’ve met many people at my music camps, and a lot say that they know people who’ve really become famous. I don’t know if I’ll necessarily become “famous”, but if you look on the logical side of things, it really helps when you know people. You have more chances for a job you like, and you have a better chance to get more money for doing
