According to the Thomas Nelson website, 15.8 percent of students overall graduate from the four-year program. This is surprising to me because many students are not graduating within those four years. I attend Thomas Nelson now, and I want to continue to be successful in all my classes. Because a college education offers benefits, I will face my challenges, listen to expert advice, and develop some strategies for success.
Most people I know have college education ranging through many generations of their family, but unfortunately my family doesn't have that luxury. I come from immigrant parents who made me realize that success is earned, not given and in order to achieve success one must aspire to work hars . Since moving to the United States eighteen years ago, my parents have taught me necessities needed to succeed in America. From living with the satisfaction that I will receive a college education to providing me with the tools neccesecary in life my parents have always been there for me. In my early childhood, my parents taught me how important a strong work ethic was and made me understand the importance of education and the prospect it provides.
Why Go To College? Life presents many opportunities, whether or not you take advantage of that or not is up to yourself. School is a very important part of people’s lives. Everyone grows up in school and spend the majority of their beginning years of life in school.
Waking up in the middle of the night, laying on my bed thinking “Was it a dream or is it real? What did I get myself into? and Why did I decide to do this? Going to Community College back in 2006 was already a big accomplishment for me, not only financially but emotionally, in my point of view. Important people such as my mom and friends helped me get to where I was at that time.
Overall, I wish to attend college to better all aspects of my life. I desire to maximize my potential and work ethic to become better. Being a first generation student will not be easy, for I have no one to tell me about experiences. I am very proud and honored to tell people that I am in college.
Growing up in rural Texas, I was the oldest of five and seen as the head of my family while my parents were working hard to pay the bills. Having that type of responsibility made me feel good as the leader of all my siblings, but in a lot of ways it was one of the main reasons I decided not to further my education after high school, considering I was helping to make sure all my other siblings also made it through school. Although I put off college for a long while, I have been inspired to attend Strayer to obtain and dissect my professor’s knowledge, discover any hidden skills, and elevate in the business world, ultimately changing a huge part of my life. Starting a family with my fiancé, to me begins with having a secure Financial understanding. Being the supervisor at FedEx along with my Boss, I feel I make a decent amount of money to support my fiancé and my step children, but when I think of all the opportunities that come along with owning a business, I know for sure that I will increase my income.
Doing what I love and being able to support myself and loved ones is important to me. I am a very independent person and I like to do things my way. I like to set individual goals everyday, whether that means doing my homework before a certain time, or completing something for the week. They help me get my work done on time and efficiently.
Being an immigrant from Mexico to the United States has opened many doors for me. Having the ability to attend college is one of those opportunities that I have had the privilege to take. Tommy Hilfiger once said “The road to success is not easy to navigate, but with hard work, drive and passion, it is possible to achieve a dream.” At this point in my life my dream that I wish to make reality is to attend and graduate from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
The reasons why I am attending college Personally, I decided to go to the college because my parents always taught me that a higher-education could offer me a better life. I attended an extraordinary high school in Italy but I wanted to continue my education here in Miami. I am attending college because I will get an excellent job and most like it make more money when I graduate, I will build more knowledge and skills and finally I will have the college experience and make more friends.
College Goal Setting Why am I going to college? I made the choice to go to college because I didn’t want to end my learning experience. I want to get a higher education, not because my family encouraged me to continue, but for myself.
There are a number of reasons as to why some people attend college such as, being forced by parents, the need to be away from parents in order to get to get the opportunity to socialize and attend parties, and others because their peers are doing so. All these are not credible reasons as to why one should attend college. At the end of the four years of college, what really matters is getting knowledge out of it and being able to apply it. College fees keep increasing from year to year and some people who cannot afford it take loans or overwork themselves in order to be able to pay it. This is not worth it especially if the student is not doing well academically.
My whole life I knew that I wanted to go to college. As a child I was told, ‘in order to make lots of money and live a happy life, you must go to college’. As I grew up and learned more about college I realized that I needed to pick a major to study. Since I was a baby there were three things I absolutely adored, Video games, building things, and the military. Once I heard people get payed a lot of money to do that very things I love, I was immediately interested.
What makes people decide whether they want to go to college? Throughout school, teachers, counselors and parents always talk about college and how important it is. Parents even start funds for their kids for college while taking them on college tours and interviews. Showing and giving kids an opportunity to see what going to college will be like. There may be just as many reasons kids may not want to go to college, but with that are also some good reasons to go.
I learn from my failures, and it is through them that I find my inspiration. I must admit, I have had a fascinating journey throughout my high school career. Within four years, I changed from being a victim of abuse to a survivor of it, I moved three thousand miles across the country, and I accomplished so much more than I ever thought I would at my age. I truly beat the odds and I did not let my circumstances dissuade my dreams of finding happiness in success. I love learning.
I learned that any barrier you face there is always an option to overcome it and be successful. I can grow by working my hardest on my school work and never giving up, even when things get hard. I also learned that time management is a very great skill to obtain at this time in my life, because college courses take time, effort, and lots of patience. I must give myself time to prepare for class work and especially exams. Having a schedule for my school work and my personal life is the best choice to help me stay on track.
