To state the life does not begin solely at the end of high school, while, with diploma in hand it would be safe to assume that the “buck stops there,” but as so many have learned in these modern times, that there is no longer truth in that. Firstly, the idea of a five, ten, fifteen more years of school is an absolutely terrifying prospect to a lot of students, myself included. The case, therefore, must be made to them that a sustainable life does not begin uniquely at the conclusion of high school, but at the front-steps of college. For it is college where one can ingest new ideas, new thoughts on where life will lead, and therefore facilitate a future of greater opportunity in an environment meant to facilitate just that. All of these factors are stymying, startling, and all-together, in of themselves, deterrents; moreover, they present themselves uniquely to each student whose willing, but not ready to take the plunge. For myself, I had a multitude of reasons to not go to college: putting it off and wanting to ‘expand’ my horizons, getting a job, learning on my own. I could go on and on with my excuses, and that is the point, excuses are always probable, but the revelation on the importance of college is always a result. From the single mother, to the student who never did well in school, there can be many valid reasons for not attending college, but is they truly a supreme reason for concluding that college is not worth the time, effort or expense? No, because, there is no excuse for not wanting to learn just based on monetary, social, or economical
