It is with great interest that I submit my application for the Charley Bailey Fellowship. I was born in Sudan and raised across three different continents. Having traveled the world my entire life, I feel fortunate to have walked, experienced, lived and interacted with diverse people on three continents. From a very young age, multiple cultures and international conflicts have touched and shaped my life. This awareness of the world has fueled my profound fascination with the study of inequality between developed and developing countries. Coming from a developing country, I realized, perhaps more than most people, the importance of equal opportunities.

I had the opportunity to work for the African Union, where I served as an Administrative Assistant Intern at their Cairo Office. I was responsible for conducting research under the Supervision of the Cultural & Information Director, I also helped plan, organize, promote and facilitate special events. Prior to working for the African Union, I worked as a research coordinator for Genocide Watch, where I was responsible for writing reports on North Africa and the Middle East. I have also worked as an administrative assistant intern supporting senior staff within the University of Pretoria. In each position that I have held, I have demonstrated my ability to complete challenging projects.
My long-term goals include someday establishing a non-governmental organization and becoming a politician in my country. After completing your program I hope to find a position within an international organization that will enable me to get first hand experience in understanding the dynamics of how international organizations function with respect to developing countries. In order to bring my plans to fruition, I need the educational experience that the American University in Cairo has to offer.
