Growing up in an environment with resources allocated to support agricultural development created a scarcity of resources to address the health needs of my community. Constrained by my environment and yearning to control and prevent my communities' poor health outcomes, I turned to education to formulate reason and solutions for what was occurring within the community. My platform is education, it has served to remove barriers created by my built environment, influenced my character and enabled me with knowledge. Pursuing doctoral studies in Environmental Health Sciences at the UC Berkeley School of Public Health will empower me to address the health needs of vulnerable populations, while advancing the field of public health.

As I complete my graduate studies, I acknowledge the gaps that remain in my knowledge and training. Moreover, training at the doctoral level in necessary to make a larger impact on underserved populations, such as my community. My background and experiences have prepared me for the doctoral program in Environmental Health Sciences. The program will support me in accomplishing my goals of formulating reason and solving problems inherent to underserved populations. Similarly, I am self-confident that the program will prepare me to translate research into practice by developing appropriate nutrition interventions for underserved populations. Embracing education has allowed me to break down environmental barriers, thus I believe that education and the environment will always influence my path in life.
