Why Is Alexander The Great A Good Leader

The thesis of this article is saying that the reason Alexander the great was such a good leader is because of his teachings from Aristotle. In the article the author says, “Alexander was extremely interested in the secrets of medicine and considered it an art. The medical knowledge he acquired from Aristotle may have saved his life and the lives of his troops on many occasions.” (Lainas, 275) It is not just Alexander's battle tactics and wars he won that made him a great leader it is because of his personality and intelligence. Alexander cared for his army and even the persians he took over. Whenever he took land over he would treat the people like his own not prisoners, he would also treat his army like equals not less than he was. Aristotle might have been a great philosopher but one of the reasons why Alexander the great was good with medicine is because he used it on his friends and army. “While Aristotle had an excellent knowledge of medicine and in turn passed on many medical secrets to his student, he did not practice medicine.” (Latinas, 276) Which is another reason why Alexander is known for his bold, courageous, helpful personality because he helped and used medicine whereas Aristotle just practiced. The article says “According to Arrian of Nicomedia, the philosopher was afraid of his former student because Alexander had gratuitously slain Aristotle's relative, the historian Callisthenes. However, if we consider the bond that existed between Alexander the Great and Aristotle, this theory seems unlikely to be true.” (Latinas, 279) Which when you think about it makes sense Alexander and aristotle were very close the reason Alexander was who he was is because of Aristotle.
