Animal testing is barbaric and cruel. Behind closed laboratory doors, animals are abused and tortured all over the country for the purpose of biological research; it is used to test the safety of consumer or industry products. The human race is almost completely blind to speciesism, which is defined as, “the assumption of human superiority leading to the exploitation of animals.” We discriminate against animals because they have no moral, cognitive, or social abilities – would we do the same to a human being with severe mental impairments? In the 1700s, Jeremy Bentham wrote, “The question is not, ‘can they reason?’, nor, ‘can they talk?’, but ‘can they suffer?’” There are many companies that boycott the use of animal testing, using advertisements …show more content…
Certain chemicals can be harmful to animals and helpful to humans and vice versa. Humans and animals have anatomic, metabolic, and cellular differences that effect the success rate of animal testing. For instance, aspirin causes teratogenic malformations in animals, while humans use it daily as an anti-inflammatory. In 2013, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS) found that there were 150 clinical trials of treatment undertaken to reduce inflammation, but all failed despite their success during testing. Cases like this made it necessary to find alternative methods to animal testing.
Technology is advancing, and the need for animal testing has vanished. There are several alternate methods that are much more effective than using rats or monkeys, not to mention cheaper. Studying cell structures in a petri-dish, micro-dosing, artificial human skin, and computer models have all done away with the need for animal testing. These methods have proved to be more successful, due to the fact that actual human cells are used rather than that of a difference species. These methods ensure safety for all animals, find cures and treatments, and save our country loads of

With cheaper and more effective methods, animal testing should be vanished – but it is still used every day. This is because many people are in the dark on this issue. This means advertisements, like the rabbit wearing makeup, are often used to shed light on the subject. A picture is worth a thousand words, and this one in particular speaks volumes. This image and others like it have the ability to put a stop to animal testing by simply catching people’s eye; it plants the seed in peoples brains for them to research the topic and understand the severity of this
