To make a significant change in the world, countless hours of preparation, of work, and proactive cooperation with others are crucial for success. I partake in few extra-curricular activities, but I have dedicated years of my life to them all. On a regular week, I have to balance French club and National French Honor Society secretary duties, community service for National Honor Society, and additional choir practice for at least two hours after school each week (while sometimes performing community service with the choir as well). I want to become an engineer; so I take AP classes that are useful and interest me because I will need to know advanced math and science concepts in college. All of these extra-curricular activities and academics will become even more relevant when it is time for me to advance my future goals of pursuing a higher education and making significant efforts to aid the world by designing helpful technology with medical applications.
Why is being in a community so important? Being in a community is so important because everyone needs a shoulder to lean on. Everyone needs a person they can talk about their problems to. Allow me to introduce myself, I am Bryan Le, a freshman that is currently attending a charter school by the name of “Downtown College Prep”. I am currently living with my parents and two younger siblings, one brother and one sister. Over my years in a public elementary school, I had seen others being happy because of one’s help and that made me feel happy inside. I then thought of ways to help others when I stumbled upon the fact that doctors help people everyday, which seemed as a great way to help many people so that they may continue to be happy in life. As I entered Downtown College Prep, I was urged by the staff to explore my options and to set a goal in life.

As a student, I’ve always strived to actively participate in my school as much as possible. This all started in middle school when I chose to participate in ASB leadership, track, football, and basketball. I feel that my motives to take on as many tasks as possible stemmed from the strong encouragement from my parents. My dad never attended college, and my mom only attended for a short period of time, and as a result of this, neither were able to obtain their ideal career path. Due to this, my parents constantly reminded me as I grew up about the importance of doing well in school and becoming the first in the family to earn a college degree.
Being cognizant of the benefits of education and utilizing my education to best prepare myself for the upcoming stage in my life, regardless of assigned work, has enhanced my academic performance.
For example, I am an active member of the FPC band. I have met a lot of new people being in that club that helped inspire me to make a bigger impact in my community. As I begin volunteering more time outside of school I realized how much I enjoyed dedicating my time to help those around me. Motivating others to do the same then became my goal for my future. My intelligence and intellect are also very important to me and thus have led me to this situation.
I can vividly remember the advice given to me by my high school counselor. I was broken down, whispering to myself that I was not college bound. It was my counselor who made me realize that persistence was a key factor to continuing my education. The wisdom that was shared to me that day was instilled into my mind and was endorsed in my heart. I want to be the person that gives a glimpse of hope to students that need an extra push through education, just like it was given to me.
Lastly, I am also taking college classes to further educate myself in subjects that I enjoy. With the countless number of possible majors available, there is a great deal of classes that cover a wide variety of subjects.
