Long ago in 1634, the King of England, Charles I, provoked many people to want to leave to the New World, due to the monarchy system. Anna, one of the miserable people under the King’s rule, was just like everyone else and couldn’t stand to live there anymore. Kammie, her sister, and Kathryn, her mom, had been listening to George Calvert in Maryland, one of the few southern colonies, and liked what he had to say. As a family, they made the decision to journey to Maryland, because of the representative government, strong economy, good climate, and especially the catholicism.
As the colonists live in Jamestown, they question their survival. In 1607, they landed on Chesapeak Bay and built a colony called Jamestown. They had their hearts set on land and gold. But they didn’t get what they hoped for. The years they have lived in North America have not been easy.
Being the first two well-known places in which the English would set out to colonize in 1607 and 1620, Jamestown, Virginia and Plymouth, Massachusetts hold very separate set of beliefs, standards, and outlooks on life then and the future to come. While paving the way for things such as slavery, taxes, ownership of land, inclusion of women, tobacco and government assemblies, John Smith and the people of Jamestown became a classical foundation for new life and economic growth for the new world that is, the United States. On the other hand, William Bradford and his people began to realize the intentions of the Church of England were unholy and had strayed away from God’s teachings from the Bible. With this in mind, the Pilgrims set on a voyage to the new world to seek religious freedom. As we know it, the Pilgrims sought for peace and a new way of living that was fair, just and free from religious corruptions.
.In the Disney movie, Pocahontas is portrayed as the beautiful, defiant eighteen year old woman who is the daughter of the chief in the Powhatan tribe. At the same time, a Powhatan warrior named Kocoum is presented as a stern and very serious young man who has an arranged marriage with Pocahontas , and eventually he will be the next chief. Chronologically, an explorer named John Smith is introduced as the handsome nineteen year old man from England who has arrived on Powhatan land in order to find gold. Lastly, a man named John Rolfe is brought upon in the sequel, in which he is a diplomat that was sent to escort the chief, Powhatan to England in order for negotiations to begin between the settlers and the natives.
In the seventeenth century, the Pilgrims left England to head for the “new world” we know today as the Americas with the hopes of finding a place independent of King James and England. In traveling across the vast Atlantic Ocean to live independently the Pilgrims were given the task of creating a successful society. They sought a place to express their religion freely and independent from the restrictions in England. They aspired to make this society succeed in several crucial areas. They pursued strong protection and in very unfamiliar territory in order to keep their people safe and happy.

However, north of Mexico, America in 1600 remained largely unexplored and effectively unclaimed by Europeans. England was one of the country which enlarged its power on America during 1600s. Waves of Puritan immigrants arrived in the region of New England, and they started to form a new atmosphere. However, the biggest difference with the Chesapeake region’s inhabitants was that the Puritans didn’t aim primarily for economic benefit or trade.
For the reason that the n-word appears 219 times in the novel, many schools have decided to ban the book in their classrooms. Cautiously questioning students whether or not the novel arouses an “uncomfortable” (Coeyman) feeling, teachers debate on teaching The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Multiple teachers feel that their inter-racial classes may include students who feel offended by the n-word. Various schools have considered the novel to be “...too racially offensive…”(Coeyman). For instance, school districts in Virginia have banned the book after a mother complained about how her son was disturbed by the “‘...racial slurs in there and offensive wording that you can’t get past…’”(Balingit).
England was far behind nations like Spain and Portugal because of the instability of the throne during the time. Especially with the reign of Henry VIII and his break with the Roman Catholic Church. The author of the excerpt saw the surplus in the population in the Americas, especially within the prisons. This surplus would be the excellent condition to send more potential colonists for the Americas. The development of political stability in England and failure at Roanoke challenged the author's point of view that England still had the chance to have American claims.
The settlers that made the journey endured harsh conditions and many challenges, but ultimately persevered which made it possible for them to gain control of the territory and create a New World. Many of the colonists were Puritans who desired to purify
During the colonial era of America, Great Britain was able to reek the benefits of this royal colony’s success. This was in large part due to the fact that Britain was able to integrate this society into its imperial system. English leaders understood that the American colonies represented a marketplace for goods, a safety valve, and a place in which competition flourished with other leading empires. One of the most important reasons why Great Britain established colonies in America was to create another form of revenue.
The expedition for the “Lane Colony” was meant to be a military post for men only. They set sail from the England ports on April 9, 1585. The colony did not last long because they lacked supplies needed for survival. They then abandoned the colony and headed back to England Shortly after, Sir Greenville arrived to the abandoned colony with winter supplies, but soon left after seeing its abandonment. ` The third trip to the new world consisted of one hundred sixteen people, including men, women, and children, who were willing to take the dangerous journey to the new world to try to establish a new colony.
The early Virginia and New England colonies differed politically, socially, and economically due to the situations that the settlers faced. Throughout many of the letters written about some of the experiences of the earlier settlers, one can easily see a major difference in the way of life of the two colonies. Although many of these colonies differed in the way of life, each colony faced some similar things that they each had to overcome. These challenges made a massive difference in the way that each of the colonies started out and directly influenced the future for both colonies. When these challenges are faced, many of the settlers will create the foundations of their political, social, and economic systems.
