Vince Lombardi once said, “It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get back up.” Dodgeball is known as the main game you play in middle school. Dodgeball in television shows, is shown as a separation between the “geeks” and “jocks”. In reality, how does dodgeball affect children? My opinion is that dodgeball should be banned to prevent bullying and targeting kids who aren’t as athletic as other children. Recently, school principals in Elkton, Maryland have banned dodgeball and other “human target” games like jail break and tag. This is all because the school district thinks it goes against everything they taught the children. They want to prevent bullying and children not feeling good about themselves. Andrew Mead, the program manager a NASPE says, “Games like dodgeball and tag, don’t keep kids involved and physically active. They objectify slower students who don’t catch as well.” There was a vote 4-1 to ban dodgeball, and the school board took it out of the school’s PE curriculum.
