In the case of Edward Snowden and what he did is somewhat controversial. The controversy on this subject is that some think he should be punished for his actions and others think he should be free and have no charges. The people that think he shouldn’t be punished also think that the government is wrong for doing what it was doing. They also think he shouldn’t be punished for exposing something the government is doing that is against the law. Now if a person is in a government agency and is doing things to keep the mass majority safe will see him as a traitor and want him to be punished.
While being trained in the army he noticed that the people training him were more pumped up about killing arabs than helping people over there(The Guardian). He didn’t take to that too well. However unlike Hester, Edward did the illegal thing to let the mass majority of the population know something about their own government. Where Hester did it because she wanted to yet helped no one. Both of them however harmed themselves somehow. For Edward, he destroyed his career and now has to live in exile. Hester has to live with the shame and always wear the scarlet letter a signifying what she did wrong. Where Edward doesn’t have as much public shaming or disappointment because he exposed something that is violating the privacy of the public. Now Edward has to live with the U.S. government constantly breathing down his neck for the rest of his life.
