News outlets that Americans have today are plentiful. You can access the news and learn about what is occurring around the world practically anywhere: from television, in magazines and newspapers, or on a smartphone, etc. News is absolutely accessible. Each news outlet crafts stories that differ from other news outlets, whether very minutely or rather vastly. Bias occurs.
For instance, tabloid newspapers tend to have false comments about politicians, whereas non-tabloid newspapers tend to have valid articles. With countless news channels, magazines and newspapers, it is quite difficult with what to believe in, but usually the newspaper or news channel that has the most misled stories is too good to be true. Thus, creating another dichotomy, as seen in Sullivan’s article, between those manipulated into joining Cohen’s stance and those who believe that some journalists act upon releasing fake or exaggerated news stories.

I think that in-your-face political television is good for American democracy. Political television has the capacity to produce emotional arousal in viewers. This can motivate voters to want to vote for a candidate who supports the issues that is most important to the voter. When someone is content or uninterested with their government and nation, most likely they won’t go out and vote because things are fine the way they are. When someone is angry or fearful towards a certain issue, this motivates them to go out and change it.

So, if information is relatively simple to validate, why is false information being readily believed and advocated for by large parts of the population? The answer is that the polarization of politics has given almost every issue a bias and persuasive edge. Organizations, government representatives, and prominent individuals utilize rhetoric that insight anger and anxiety that leaves the public vulnerable to the embracement of misinformation.
The role of media in elections has been continually evolving since the beginning of campaigns. Media today not only informs their viewers but also creates a lasting opinion in their heads of the candidates running. While media is a great way to expand information to a wider audience it can also be used to backlash and create a bad name for the candidates that they are focused on.
