Many parents feel that teens should only focus on grades and learning throughout high school. While education is a pertinent part of high school, the aspects of personal achievements outside of learning are fairly important as well. I believe strictly that high school should be experienced in a way in which students challenge his or her selves and not guided by a parent because the students individually will obtain useful problem solving skills.
High school should be experienced in a way in which students challenge his or herself because high school is the first chance most teens in high school will have to face responsibility for his or herself. Teens have to learn how to handle the real world by his or herself. During high school, most teens take on his or her first part-time job, a prime example of where teens need to utilize problem solving skills. Parents cannot hover around a child while at work. Moreover, parents cannot protect a child at work. Problem solving, when unsuccessful, gives teens the option to reflect. Reflecting upon and evaluating the effects from struggle for teens can be a monumental feat. The teen challenges his or her brain to work out a solution so that when faced with a similar situation the teen will easily reference from his or her failure and act on how to overcome the situation quickly. Thus, the time spent failing ultimately benefited the teen and allowed the teen to grow into a better individual.
