Teens go through so much and have a list of things to deal with. They go through depression, bullying, school grades and so much more. 16.39% of youth (age 12-17) reported suffering from at least one major depressive episode in the past year (Burke, 2023). In Ms. Webster's class everyone read a book and even though it was a fiction book those teens went through a plethora of challenges and had no way to cope with their problems. That is why everyone needs to try their best to “Stay Gold” and help everyone that is struggling. The author, S.E. Hinton wrote The Outsiders to show people that there are different types of people and they should all be treated equally because everyone is going through something. He hated when his mom ignored him so he would much rather have his dad slap him, than his mother ignore him.(chapter one page 12) Ponyboy struggled with figuring out what and who he wanted to be. He did not understand why being a greaser meant they had to steal things, have greasy hair, and be labeled a greaser. He also did not understand why all of the socs get to have nice things, be rich, are clean, and are labeled a soc. He wished he could just be a normal human without a label.(chapter 9 page 132)The Socs are extremely violent towards the Greasers. The Socs will jump the Greasers, if a greaser is walking somewhere and a soc drives by.(chapter one page 2-3) Ponyboy was walking home from the movies and some of the socs drove by and then jumped out of the car and started threatening Ponyboy that they were going to give him a haircut.(chapter one page 4-6). One usually does not know what they are going through; always be nice to everyone. Some issues teens go through are as follows: depression, bullying/cyber bullying, school, and grades. (achieve article “More Than Just Worry”) So many teens go through depression and no one usually knows. I have had negative thoughts before and they have led me to do harmful things which consist of not eating for a few days, and thinking super down on myself. I always reach out to my friends to help me, and talk through what I am feeling. Bullying happens everyday at school and online. In fact, 59% of U.S. teens have been bullied or harassed online, and is a major problem for people in their teen age (Pewresearch, 2023). I have never been bullied or harassed online or in person, but I know of people that have had pictures posted of them when they did not give them consent to post pictures. I do not know anyone that has been bullied or harassed in person or in school, as our school is close to each other and does not have many fights or anything only over social media. School and grades can wreck teens' lives, because parents can get angry at kids if they do not get the “perfect” grades or if they do not get the perfect attendance. My parents are extremely supportive with grades and if I try my best they do not get mad or upset because they know I am trying and that is what matters most to them. They have always been supportive when I fail
