To begin with ,Johnny in the novel is scared.For example, “Johnny's color was back and his breathing was regular but his hands was shaking ever so slightly”.(Hinton Pg.32)This shows he is scared because he is showing this fear and looks like he is in fear or if someone scared him.Another example, is “After four socs got hold of him and it wasn't pretty, Johnny was scared of his own shadow after that”. …show more content…

Furthermore, Johnny in the novel is also sensitive.For instance, “Johnny was a nervous wreck, but he never was that jumpy”.(Hinton Pg.36)This shows he is sensitive because he is just getting scared of everything and he always so jumpy since that day they jumped him.Another example, is “Johnny never spoke to girls much but weather that was because he was scared Steve or because he was shy”.(Hinton Pg.32)This shows he is sensitive because he can't even talk to girls. Therefore,Johnny in the novel is also tough.For example, “Johnny killed someone”.(Hinton Pg.54)This shows he is tough because someone who is tough is capable and has the courage of doing something like this.Another example, is “Johnny gulped and got a little pale, but he said you heard me leave her alone”.(Hinton Pg.22)This shows he is tough because at first he was scared to tell Dally to leave her alone but then he got tough or got the strength to tell Dally what he wanted to
