In the novel The Outsiders, there are things motivating Dally, Johnny, and Ponyboy to save the children caught in the church fire. One piece of evidence that shows the motive of Ponyboy is “’I bet we started it,” I said to Johnny. ‘We must have dropped a lighted cigarette or something’” (Hinton 70). Ponyboy must’ve felt guilty that he may have caused the fire so he went to save the children in exchange for his mishap.
Throughout the novel, Hinton characterizes Johnny as A skinny scared boy who has been kicked around to many times. The Outsiders is about Ponyboy Curtis and his brothers, Sodapop and Darry, belong to a group of poor teenage boys called greasers. Many of them have led hard lives already, and they are tough, angry and unforgiving. They often fight with the Socs, the group of wealthy, privileged boys who beat them up for fun. In the novel The Outsiders a hero is a person, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.
Have you ever been in a situation that someone does something and then you do the same thing and get into trouble? Like if someone tells you not to touch something and your friend touches it and then when you touch it you get in trouble. In S.E Hinton's book, The Outsiders, it it's kind of the same. The socs get away with things much easier than the greasers because they are upper class.
Although both gangs, “The Greasers” and “The Socs” both have company, they have increasing problems. Both “The Greasers” and “The Socs” deal with many problems most of their problems are the same. Even though, “The Socs” are drinking alcohol in a different area it doesn’t mean “The Greasers” aren’t doing the same. In the novel, “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton, the gangs of the story, “The Socs” and “The Greasers” both deal with problems including money, free time, and territory. Both gangs, “The Greasers” and “The Socs”, deal with a lot of the same problems.
In the beginning of the novel, The Outsiders, written by S.E Hinton, the author portrays Johnny Cade as a weak and helpless character in the book. He`s seen as a dynamic character that has gone through extremely tough times that are difficult for him to handle alone. ``He was the gangs`pet, everyones` kid brother``, if it hadn`t been for the gang Johnny would have never felt love nor affection. He always seemed to have an anxious and suspicious look in his eyes, he was a nervous wreck. He struggled in the areas of self-confidence and loving himself, that even the idea of suicide popped in his head.
The character Johnny grows in major ways throughout The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Johnny was a greaser, His best friend was Ponyboy, the main character. Johnny was a dynamic character, he contributed a lot to the main theme. Johnny had bad parents and committed murder. Soon after his bad acts, he became a hero.

Hilton, we go to a time where gangs remain dominant and run the streets. S.E. Hinton tells us about two enemy gangs. The Socs, one of the many provocative gang groups, kids who live lavish lives and get away with the crimes they commit because they look clean cut and look like good innocent kids on the outside.
In particular, Johnny and Ponyboy were at a park when all of a sudden the Socs appeared and jumped them. Ponyboy was being drowned and Johnny was pushed down away from them. Johnny decided he needed to save Pony so he got out his knife and stabbed Bob the Soc. Killing someone is never the right thing to do so Johnny could have gone for help.

Johnny made this spontaneous decision because the Socs were trying to drown Ponyboy in the park’s fountain. When Ponyboy realized Johnny murdered Bob, Ponyboy was as frightened as if he was at a haunted house . The consequence of this choice was that Johnny and Ponyboy felt guilty ,and they Both decided to run away for a like one million years. Johnny said, “I killed him. I killed that boy (pg56).”
A clear sign of the gangs influence on Johnny was when he decided to prevent the Soc’s from drowning Ponyboy and defending himself instead of letting the Socs beat them up and have them possibly drown Ponyboy. More specifically, after finally fighting back and killing Bob, he says to Ponyboy “‘I killed him’ he said slowly. ‘I killed that boy”’(Hinton 56). Here the author is explaining how shocked Johnny was once he killed the Soc.
Johnny isn 't school smart, but he sure is practical. After innocent johnny killed a Soc, he only took a second to cool down and then started to make a plan. Almost anyone would break down for a long time before even thinking about getting up on their feet. But johnny, he is different. He knew that he would get jail time if the buzz caught him (pg 57-58).
