Napoleon's Weak Empire Napoleon was a very determined man. He had many accomplishments while on his time of being emperor of the French Revolution during 1804 until 1814. Despite all his accomplishments and successes his desire to achieve was the reason for his fall. Napoleon Bonaparte was born on August 15 1769, in Ajaccio, Corsica. The rise of Napoleon began in 1799 with his ”coup d’etat” that established the French Consulate. Napoleon's weakness caused the European-wide empire to end because of the Continental System, The Peninsular War, and the French Invasion of Russia. Napoleon's first mistake in why Napoleon's empire was weakened was his wanting to destroy Britain. This failure became known as the Continental System. His navy was destroyed at Trafalgar in 1805, after that in order to secure his empire he decided that he would have to defeat Britain. According to the textbook,“In November 1806 Napoleon set up a blockade to prevent all trade and communication between Great Britain and other European nations” This quote shows that Napoleon’s intentions were to destroy Great Britain's …show more content…

The textbook stated, “In an effort to get portugal to accept the Continental System, he sent an invasion force through spain”. This action made the spanish people to protest. Napoleon removed the king and put his brother joseph in response to their reactions. When the Spanish decided to fight back their peasant fighters “guerrillas” hit French armies in Spain for six years. Since the guerillas couldn't be defeated in an “open battle” due to their technique in hiding, it made Napoleon's army imposible to get rid of them. Adding to the problem, the British contributed in aided the injured Spanish. All this resulted in failure because Napoleon lost over 300,000 ,men during this war that became known as the “Peninsular War” because of Spain lying on the Iberian
