Search Paper: Is Osama bin Laden Really Dead
Osama bin Laden was the creator and the leader of the Islamic group called Al-Qaeda. On May 2nd, 2011 he was killed by United States Navy SEAL official during a raid in a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. It is said that people doubt that Osama bin Laden is actually dead. People claim that his body was not dumped into the ocean, and is hidden somewhere. It is more likely that Osama bin Laden is indeed dead. The second statement that I have made seems to be more compelling than the first, because of its evidence. With Schick’s SEARCH method, I will defend my claim.
Hypothesis 1: Osama bin Laden really never died and he is still alive. People say that he was captured alive by the Navy Seals and is in captivity by the United States government. Osama bin Laden was told to be dead by many witnesses and his body was thrown into the ocean wrapped. The main evidence for this claim, is that the United States refused to provide any physical evidence to confirm its claim. …show more content…

Both of the hypothesis makes predictions, so they are testable. The second hypothesis seems to get these predictions correct compared to the first hypothesis, therefore, the first hypothesis is not fruitful. According to scope, the second hypothesis seems to have a little more than the first hypothesis. A biggest area where the first hypothesis seems to be invalid, is with simplicity and conservatism. The first hypothesis creates more assumptions, and seems to contradict of what we already know. One of the assumptions question could be that, where is this hidden place that the United States has Osama bin Laden. The second hypothesis makes the fewest assumption and does not contradict of what we already know about the situation. After evaluating both hypothesis according to the criteria of adequacy, the second hypothesis is the most
