Atomic Bombs are one of the most controversial weapons created. The first and ever time the atomic bomb was used in warfare was in World War II. The United States dropped two bombs on Japanese cities and killed hundreds of thousands of people. The atomic bomb has affected the world and the citizen lives. Many have been killed because of it but the world has also been helped by it. The inventor of the atomic bomb was J. Robert Oppenheimer also known as the “father of the atomic bomb”. He was an American theoretical physicist. At the age of ten he was already studying minerals, physics, and chemistry all at once that’s how they knew he was academically gifted. Oppenheimer gathered around two hundred scientists for the manhattan project to live and work on the bomb in a secret third city. Those scientists made two different bomb designs. The first bomb was a gun-type bomb called the “little boy” The second bomb was an implosion-type bomb called the “fat man”. But they both were equally destructive. The atomic bomb was invented for defense against Japan in World War II. President Truman was the president that approved the atomic bomb used to make Japan surrender. The atomic bomb was seen as a way to force Japan to surrender and avoid the need for a costly invasion and risk to our military. On one hand, the atomic bomb led to the end of World War II, which saved many lives and helped bring a lot of peace. Additionally, the bomb prevented an invasion of the Japanese mainland and made the Japanese back off. It has also spurred technological advancements in energy and medicine and the bomb saved the United States a ton of money it made the war end quickly and effectively. Another thing that was a positive outcome of the bomb was it made the United States more powerful by having that in our arsenal. On another hand, people say the bomb was negative and not needed at all. They say that it was unnecessary to win the war and they deployed the bomb so early on. The bomb also caused immense destruction and lots of lives were lost in the crossfire. President Truman constituted a war crime and many people could even say it was genocide. This invention isn’t specifically still being used today, it was last used in 1945. Other countries are still making nuclear weapons just not the atomic bomb anymore. We don't have complete knowledge of what other countries are making but we do know nuclear bombs are still being made and are still out there. The scientists working on the Manhattan Project feared that the use of the bomb would set a dangerous precedent and lead to the spread of nuclear weapons. In the end, overall the scientists agreed it was necessary to end the war quickly and save
