The bill of rights was created because of a conflict between the Anti-federalists and federalists. The federalists agree that a bill of rights was required. The purpose of the Bill of Rights was to protect the rights of citizens. It guaranteed them their freedom and to keep the government from becoming too powerful thus giving the congress limitations.
When our founding fathers first created the Constitution it was found unworkable and had to have some changes before the ratification. In that process people began to have some differences such as the Federalist saw that the enhanced Constitution alone would protect all basic human rights. While Antifederalist saw that we needed an extra addition to the document that would genuinely give the basic rights, liberties, and limit the government from denouncing these rights and liberties from the people. The Bill of Rights was a necessary addition that has and will continue to protect the people from injustice in the government with the help of the Supreme Court.
The Anti-Federalists were correct that a Bill of Rights was necessary to guard citizens from tyranny. To begin with, the Constitution is the framework for the organization of the U.S government and for the relationship the federal government with the states, citizens, and all people within the nation. When the United States was being born, the Founders adopted the first constitution to the nation called, Article of Confederation which created a central government that did not have much power and most of the power were given to the state government. However, the Article of Confederation was not working because there was no chief executive, no court system, and most important that was the central government could not force a state to pay taxes.

The Anti-Federalists that opposed the constitution believed that the constitution would give too much power to the government. The Anti-Federalists argued that a powerful government would become tyrannical like the British monarchy that they worked so hard to escape from. This led them to create The Bill of Rights. Today’s government has similar problems. Nowadays some politicians believe that The Bill of Rights is a living document that can be changed or manipulated to “better fit” the era that we live in.
They stop the national government from interfering with the essential rights and civil liberties of citizens and they also accentuate how limited the national government’s power is. For instance, Amendment I guarantees the freedom of religion, Freedom of speech where the government cannot interfere with people’s personal beliefs. Another common amendment today is the 5th amendment which gives people the right to choose not to testify in court if they feel their own testimony will incriminate them, it also protects citizens from being subject to criminal prosecution and punishment without due process and protects people from being tried for the same case twice. Government’s power is limited through the bill of rights through the 3rd amendment which requires the owner’s consent when it comes to housing troops in their private homes which was something that was problematic during the American Revolutionary war. The Bill of Rights were added to the constitution due to the fact that citizens were unhappy because the constitution did not list the basic civil liberties of citizen’s and their individual freedoms.

The different Amendments prove the the Anti-federalists feared the strong central government, and desired a limited government, and had protections of basic freedoms. The Bill Of Rights show that they feared a strong central government because Amendment 9 was included into the Bill Of Rights. Anti-federalists feared a strong central government because Amendment 9 talks about how no ones right will be taken away.

My top ten most important articles in the Texas Bill of Rights are Articles 29, 28, 26, 19, 3, 8, 27, 6, 24, 32. Listed from most important to least important. I chose article 29 as my most important article because it states that no governmental power can deny the Texas Bill of rights and therefore cannot be violated or ignored. This specific article stood out to me because it keeps the government from making decisions freely without the justification of anyone.

Although Thomas Jefferson was against the Constitution and was considered an anti-federalist it has proven that the Constitution was the best fit for all Americans. The Bill of Rights has shown plenty of improvement due to the court cases that are currently being resolved. Court cases might’ve been difficult to understand, but have slowly and progressively done the right thing, protecting our rights.

In the first Amendment of the U.S. Constitution it states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble.” This Amendment gives power to the individual by prohibiting Congress from making new laws that will interfere with the freedom of speech of the people. The Preamble Constitution also reduces the power of the Federal Government by stating,” Secure the Blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.” By saying this, the Constitution weakens the Federal Government by barring the government from making laws against these rights in not just the present but the future as well.
Imagine something being handed to you on a silver platter, without asking for it. Freedom is our constitutional right, everyone deserves to be respected and equal, and America was built on freedom. Freedom should be handed to us. Citizens should not have to beg and plead for a birth given right. People have already fought and demanded freedom for many years.
