Why Is The Giant Panda Undergoing Extinction

Over the years, the giant panda has been known as one of the world’s most endangered species. The pandas were undergoing extinction because of the lack of food, habitat, and many other challenges. Scientists all over the world were set out on a mission to help find a way to save disappearing animals.

Fortunately for the giant pandas, they were taken off of the “extinction” list; but also, put onto the “vulnerable” list of the IUCN. This is because, the pandas, although ‘saved’ from extinction, are still capable of becoming extinct once again, [believed to happen in about 40 to 80 years]; especially with all of the climate, economic and environmental changes taking place in China.

Because of all the pollutants in the air, it is affecting the daily lives of the bears. The polluting smog comes from exhaust gas from vehicles and the process of burning coal at power plants and factories. According to http://www.pdxwildlife.com/chinese-pollution-pandas/ website, when the emissions of chemicals are released from the factories and into the air, it can travel to the bamboo plants and enter their food chain.

Giant pandas are also dying off because of the prevention of mating. According to WWF’s, “Adopt a Panda” website, the pandas are also being cut off from mating because of habitat loss. The railings and railroads being built in the forests are causing more and more fragmentation, which leads to a decrease in the reproduction of pandas. If there is no new generation of pandas to live once the older ones have died, then of course, there will be no more of that
