Is Gatsby Great? Gatsby is the main character in Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby” but the title implies that he is “Great”. Some may think that he doesn't deserve the title of “Great” but he certainly should. “The Great Gatsby” is a book written by the famous F. Scott Fitzgerald back in the 20’s. It is about a mysterious rich man in long island. You are taken on an adventure with the narrator, and Gatsby’s friend, Nick. Gatsby is in love with a woman, but she can’t love him because he is poor. He then meets her five years later, extremely wealthy, but she has married a man and has had a child. Gatsby was the only one that Nick didn't regret meeting in New York. He hated every other person. “Gatsby turned out alright in the end; it was what preyed on gatsby, what foul dust floated in the wake of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interest in the abortive sorrows and short-winded elations of men.” Gatsby is a great man because in Nick’s eyes, he was the only one that “turned out alright in the end”, he had an extraordinary gift for hope, and he humble and not a jerk about his money. …show more content…

In his eyes, everyone that he met in New York was awful, selfish, and careless. It made him sick just to think about them. All except Gatsby. Gatsby was the only one that Nick didn't regret meeting in New York.
