In ancient times the most highly honored person was usually the king. The king always had the strongest army, unimaginable riches, and an impressive collection of people behind him. Great is a title that few people in and out of this world have had the honor of being called. Jay Gatsby was a man who started from nothing, he worked hard to become rich, and he didn’t get his money from an inheritance. As a matter of fact, including the mysterious riches, he changed his entire personality to blindly pursuing Daisy, his long-lost love. Gatsby may be great in the eyes of others, but to himself, he is a fake. However, this is a silly thing to say because crazily obsessing over someone whom he hasn’t seen in five years isn’t love, that’s stalking.Not only is Jay Gatsby a love-obsessed stalker, he also uses his money for childish reasons. When Gatsby became wealthy, he purchased a mansion across a lake from Daisy and her husband. One would think that this would make Daisy and Tom a little strange if they knew. Gatsby also throws extravagant parties just so Daisy might come wondering in one day. Even the people at the parties have a hard time believing that Gatsby is real. While Nick and Jordan are wandering around Gatsby’s mansion, they come across a fellow who is clearly drunk and fascinated by Gatsby’s collection of “real” books. This man exclaims, "See! It's a bona-fide piece of printed matter. It fooled me. This fella's a regular Belasco. It's a triumph. What thoroughness! What realism!" (45). This is very ironic, the people at his parties think he is the real deal, rich charming and put together. Gatsby may be able to buy the things that rich people have, but he can't buy the education or experience. From what the owl-eyed man says, it doesn't sound like anyone else is reading the books.
