When Canada was created the Halifax explosion, Vimy ridge and the battle of the Somme were all significant events in Canadian history that played important roles in Canada's development and growth. It also carried on the legacy of Sir Wilfrid Laurier, one of Canada's most influential prime ministers. These crucial events played a vital role in shaping both Laurier’s leadership and Canada’s national identity as a whole. They all had their fair share of importance towards Canada showcasing their bravery, sacrifice and resilience during world war 1.

The battle was fought from April 9th to the 12 of 1917, during WW1 it holds a significant place in Canadian history . It was a defining moment for Canada as a young nation as it marked the first time that all 4 divisions of the Canadian corps fought together in a single operation. Under the command of Arthur Currie, Canadian soldiers displayed exceptional skill, innovation, and determination in capturing the German position on Vimy ridge. The success at vimy ridge was not achieved without immense sacrifice. The battle claimed the lives of over 3,500 Canadian soldiers and left thousand more injured. However the outcome, it also resulted in resounding victory for the Canadian forces, who were able to seize control of the ridge from the germans. This accomplishment was particularly significant, as previous attempts by the French and British forces had been unsuccessful, resulting in heavy casualties. Reasons for why it happened was due to The Canadians, fighting as part of the larger British effort in what became known as the Battle of Arras, were ordered to seize the high strategic strong point of Vimy Ridge, on the northern flank of the British attack. Attacking the ridge would help divert German resources from the French assault. Vimy ridge has an important role on the development of canada while its particularly important tactical feature. Its capture by the Canadians was essential to the advances by the British Third Army to the south and of exceptional importance to checking the German attacks in the area in 1918.
