In the short story “Trifles,” the murder of Mr. Wright is investigated. Mrs. Wright, the main suspect is arrested for her husband's death. Mrs Wright very clearly in the story killed her husband, most would think what she did was horrible. But two women, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters, knew the full story, which uncovered what Mrs. Wright did actually wasn’t so bad after all. The relationship between all three women, how Mr. Wright treated Mrs. Wright, and lastly how the men treated the women were all the common factors of why it was right for Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters to withhold there discovery of the truth. Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters knew Mrs. Wright fairly well before the incident. Although, Mrs. Wright being isolated by her husband made it hard to know her. The two women knew her well enough to know that she was not the kind of person to kill, but she was made into one. In the story Mrs. Hale talks lots about Mrs. Wright, but a sacific statement shows how well she knew her. Glaspell states, “she used to sing, he killed that too,”(848). This statement shows the person Mrs. Wright was before her husband, she was fluttery, and nice, and this person was changed by her husbands isolation and abusive actions. Wright's actions towards Mrs. Wright made the whole situation very clear. The discovery of the dead bird opened Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters eyes to the truth. They figured Mrs. Wright loved that bird, because she used to love singing, and Mr. Peters hated singing so he must have rung the birds neck. This quote particularly shows the connections they are making. Glaspell says in the story, “No, Wright wouldn't like the bird- a thing that sang,”(848). This shows the connections Mrs. Hale was making. Mr. Wright killing the bird was the last straw for Mrs. Wright, it was the last thing that made her feel free, and he took it away. So in retaliation she killed her
