1. I do not feel that the four month prison sentence for John is justifiable so, my answer is no. He has not caused an accident or anything, he just got a DUI. It is obvious that John has an alcohol use disorder due to the fact that he was arrested three times in one year. By putting John in jail does not deal with the problem that got him there, his drinking. His behavior shows that he cannot control his drinking and it is becoming a problem. He needs to be assessed to establish exactly what his condition is and what kind of treatment is needed for recovery. He needs to have some kind of support system for his recovery. While addiction to alcohol does not have a cure, the disease can be stopped once the individual refrains from alcohol and goes into treatment. I feel that there should be no prison sentence he needs be in a long term rehab.

I do not think that gambling should be outlawed. It is every person’s personal choice to choose his or her substance to abuse, and gambling can be one of them. Just like with drugs or alcohol, gambling gives a person that good feel feeling which comes with the high of a win. Becoming a compulsive gambler is considered an addictive disorder just the same as becoming a substance abuser. When the dependency of the substance starts to become a problem and interferes with a person’s life; that is when that person becomes an addict/ substance abuser. It becomes a personal disease adversely changing the abusers life and the lives of their friends and family. As stated in our text book, only 2-7 percent of gambles become compulsive gamblers. Anything done in moderation should be able to be controlled by a person in charge of him or her self. I would like to be able to pull a slot machine handle every once in a
