All throughout the majority of my high school career I have watched all different kinds of public service announcements. The high school system loves to incorporate these multitudes of videos to try to convey a message. As a high school student I can confidently say that neither me nor my peers can learn from or relate to these videos. In driver 's education and health class every highschooler has to watch these public service announcements on stopping distracted driving. The videos that the school provides are often completely outdated and make you wonder if the tragedy at hand actually happened to the people poorly acting in each of the videos.
Shut down your screen” week is something our school should take part in. It would be very helpful, even if it’s just for a week. It could service us in the future, it helps us communicate with our teachers and peers, and it will keep us concentrated. Participating in “Shut down your screen” week will assist students remember the material.
On 06/16/15 at approximately 1258 hours I responded to 5538 Regal Oaks Circle for a report of four suspicious black males between the ages of 16 to 18 years of age. The caller, Giovanni who resides at 5538 Regal Oak Circle (NOI) advised the black males were observed walking around the neighborhood and jumping fences. He advised the black males were observed getting into a black in color, 4 door, Toyota Corolla. Giovanni also stated he thought the juveniles were casing vehicles or residence to burglarize. He advised there have been multiple burglaries to vehicles and residences recently.
It is important for students with difficulty staying focused, and who have issues with inconsistent alertness, to be given opportunities to move around. Students who struggle with attention often do better if they are given opportunities for brief breaks, which help to enhance the learning process (Jensen, 2000). When students are engaged in a task that involves higher order of thinking for a long period of time, students can experience a “burnout,” which results in no new learning to occur (Jensen, 2000). Having scheduled breaks will assist students with attention disorders to better process information and learn new material in the classroom. Many students have experienced time-outs, however, it is important to decipher between time-outs and taking a break.
Teachers that are always on their phones aren’t as good of teachers. Teachers would rather be on their phone than teach the students. teachers like to play games and not teach. Teachers think its fair that they can be on theIr phones but students can’t. Teachers are always on their phones during class even though they should be teaching the students.
Alive But Not Living A relatively new epidemic is threatening everything we treasure most. Unlike the Black Plague long ago this epidemic very slowly takes its course. Although it’s something that does not kill you, it also does not let you live. Technology is taking away everything we hold dear.
Behavior Plan Also, my classroom has positive or negative consequences based on how the students behave. Positive consequences consist of the students having a good grade for conduct on their report cards and making students ' progress. If a student behave well, he/she has a chance to be team captain for the week. Also, the student can select an item from the treasure box, or they can have free time on the computer. Another positive behavior consequence is they could get a lunch date with the teacher.
Sixty five percent of students sneak their phones in school, and are distracted by it.” This means that other students are losing focus while trying to learn. Teachers also have a hard time teaching when a cell phone is constantly interrupting the class. The effect of this are students and teachers will not be able to continue on working lesson plans. The Results of this is kids falling behind on subjects and performing worse than schools who ban phones.
Teachers these days are indubitably facing many challenges regarding their students’ attitudes and behaviours towards learning and managing a classroom. Teachers have an important role to play in creating a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning, keeping their students engaged and motivated to learn. There are many things to take into account on a student’s level of interest and engagement in learning, and teachers have very little control over these aspects. Teachers can influence student motivation by using certain practices (Anderman and Midgley, 1998). Under the tenets of operant conditioning originated by B.F Skinner, it has been described as a process which modifies behaviour through the use of reinforcements.
Especially when someone is trying to get school work done, if they start using their phone, then it takes them so much longer to get that work done than if they had just put the phone down and do it. Smartphones are too much of a distraction to people, and it is sometimes hard to put them down. People nowadays rely so much on their smartphones and it is not okay. For example, for directions they just use the navigation map on ones phone instead of knowing how to get there by looking at directions.
Classroom Observations Mrs. Canada is the first grade teacher that I observed, and the subject that she was teaching was reading. She had planned well-organized power points and crafting materials in advance, so she was prepared for the lesson. The two times I observed, the lesson that was being taught at both times was reading. Children in the classroom used a lot of previous knowledge for the lesson.
However, Villar (2011) highlighted Owen Villar understanding about hyperactivity, he quoted that “hyperactivity is defined as an inability to sit for long periods of time, especially when the task requires the child to sit down. Roaming around without purpose, restlessness, fidgeting, climbing or running inappropriately, talking excessively, and shifting their attention from one activity to another within a few minutes are common signs of hyperactivity.” Fine (2012) quoted Cruikshank’s comments, states that: Hyperactive children by reason of their concomitant learning and management problems constitute one of the most perplexing issues to teachers and administrators and indeed to emotionally normal children within the school (Cruikshank, 1967).
Using cell phones in class can waste their time in class discussions. The reason why the students will went to school so that the students will have knowledge. Also students will be taking pictures and the teacher will hear it say cheese and will see the flash. Also students will be not participating in class activities because of cell phones. Also if they are listening to music they will be dancing and singing and they cannot hear what you were discussing in front.
Could letting students have their phones out during class for educational purposes help students stay more focused? Well, some people think that it will work and others think it won’t work because, if students have their phones out during class, the students aren’t going to use them for educational purposes, but the people that do think that it will work probably think it will work with the proper supervision that the students would be under. Although students’ cell phones aren’t allowed to be out during class currently, students should be able to have their cell phones out during class because they can be really useful for presentations, notes, school work, etc.. but cell phones can be really useful. Even though cell phones can be really distracting during school they can be really helpful and can keep a student’s grade at a passing level. It will take time to adjust if teachers allow students to use their phones for class work, but I doubt that it will take a long time for it to be adjusted to considering the fact that a lot of students are on their phones all the time when they get out of school.
