Many parents would not be comfortable with their children behind the wheel, although the positives of allowing teenagers to drive heavily outweigh the negatives. Due to the difficulty public transportation possess in some cities, as well as the independence factor realized through the ability to drive along with the good habits learnt through the independence of driving, sixteen year olds should be allocated the right to drive.
Many cities and towns do not provide the best public transportation systems, and getting around is never always an option. Being a teen you have many responsibilities, some of which prepare you for the real world, driving is just one such factor. The denial of the right for teenagers to drive, acts as a denial in the advanced independence provided through the ability to drive. Teenagers are continually encouraged to seek a higher sense of responsibility and being confident and providing them with independence to drive will be beneficial to this goal. Having a parent handing their keys off to their teenage son or daughter will force a sense of responsibility to be undertaken by the teen. Time management is crucial in the driving world, knowing the traffic times as well as the time it will take to reach a particular destination brings along the responsibility of maintaining one’s time. Learning the importance of the vehicle’s maintenance is also key in the driving wold which will also force the teenager to step up to the plate. Therefore providing teenagers with the opportunity to drive automatically increases their sense of responsibility. Due to the ability to simplify their schedule in ways such as being on time will cause a desire to maintain the opportunity of owning a vehicle adding on to the pressure to be and act more
