This war was fought between the northern states and the southern states. The problem was that the northern states were being control by the southern states and they did not like that at all. Many of the southern state decided that they were going to separate from their own country named the confederacy. On the other hand the northern states wanted to stay together as one united country, this is why the American civil war began. The major event that lead to this war lasted for like about five years started in 1860 to 1865. Some of the event before the war were the Harpers Ferry raid in 1859 which an abolitionist john brown wanted to start a slave rebellion by taking the harper ferry arsenal, but at the end he was hanged for treason. The American Civil War does not only starts because of slavery other causes that led to the American civil war where political and cultural problem between the states, industry vs farming, state rights, and expansion. This was the deadliest was in American history around 210,000 soldiers killed in action and 625,000 total dead. Around 9 million people lived in the southern states and around 3.4 million were slaves. One of the sad parts is that the sixty six percent of the deaths in the war were due to disease. During the civil war daily life was really difficult for the average American many men joined the army if not they were drafted, while the women stayed home working the land or they had to find a job and support the family on their own. Some of the women served as nurses in the army, helping soldiers to recover. Kids still went to school during the war.
