After the first, world war ended badly for Germany, the Germany people once more returned to their country with devastating losses. Germany encountered not only massive poverty, but also starvation.
At this point in history the Weimar Republic was formed in 1919, and there was a great hope that democracy would take hold in Germany. The new Germany constitution was created with extend rights for its people, and at the time was one of the most progressive in the world. Many middle class German’s were well-educated, and flourished as government workers, property owners, and business people. Differing political parties freely competed in elections. But still democracy failed to take long term hold in German.
