Alessandro had a lot of power when he was the first duke of Florence. He was the patron of some of the leading artists of the era and is one of the two Medici princes whose remains are buried in the famous tomb by Michaelangelo. He was the first black head of state in the modern western world. Alessandro was born in 1510 to a black serving woman in the Medici household who is simply mentioned in existing documents as Simonetta da Collavechio. Historians today are convinced that Alessandro was fathered by the seventeen year old Cardinal Giulio de Medici.

Second, Titian impacted modern society with his painting skills. Third, Albrecht Dürer impacted modern society with his painting skills and his engravings and wood cuts. Fourth, Nicolaus Copernicus impacted modern society with his scientific theory about our solar system.

Medieval Europe ranged from 500 to 1500 AD, and was considered by many to be a Dark Age. After the fall of Western Rome, Europe was divided into many different feudal states. Lifestyle was very rural and simple, with little progression or innovation; until the Commercial Revolution, beginning in 1100. This influx of trade led to a more stabilized merchant or middle class, causing towns and cities to be built. These cities meant a growing economy, and in turn more innovation and art.
The Medici moved from the Mugello Valley into Florence in 1150 AD. In 1397 Giovanni de Medici established the headquarters of Florence. This founded on the wealth of the Medici. The Medici were merchants, cardinals, popes, and bankers. They even had their own bank, the Medici bank.
Art during the renaissance During the Renaissance, there was a lot of artworks and creations. The art varied from paintings to sculptures. some of the famous artists during this time were Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Donatello. These artists have created amazing works and have more than likely inspired many artists around the world today. These artists have created a huge impact on the importance of art along with giving more of a historic background.
Michelangelo had a gigantic influence on the renaissance. He was a master at both painting and sculpting, he also was an architect, engineer, and poet. During his day he was unbeatable in his painting and sculpting skills. He had many artist study under him and help him with painting the Sistine Chapel in Vatican, but none were on par with him.
