Why Was Luther's Ideas Appealing

Martin Luther was born November 10, 1483, he was a German professor of theology. Martin Luther was also a composer, priest, and monk, and an important person in the Protestant Reformation. Martin was best known for his teachings. Martin Luther believed that the Holy Bible was the main source of religious expert, and that salvation was reached through faith and not actions. Although many people did not agree with his teachings and beliefs, the Germans found his ideas appealing for several important reasons.

In Catholic churches the pope was in control of the church and its decisions. Therefore, German princes were converting from Christianity to Lutheranism to gain control of the residential churches and not have to share power with anyone else. Not having to share power with anyone else made them feel empowered, which is why they found Martin’s ideas appealing.
Another reason why Germans found Luther’s ideas appealing, were because of the financial ideas Martin Luther had for Lutheranism’s. Therefore, taxes no longer went to the pope, they now went to the Germans. The land that was once of monks, and priest would be the Germans, and would allow them to be able to sell the land and make money to improve their country.
The Germans also felt that having the pope protect the country was not the best idea because they felt unprotected and felt like they needed someone who had more experience in military training to be able to protect them. Therefore, when Martin Luther presented his belief of Lutheranism, the Germans found it appealing that they could now feel protected having the German Princes in control because they felt the German Princes would be able to protect them from harm since they had more experience in fighting than the pope
