The Electoral College was created when the small states feared that large states would be more powerful in determining presidency. Therefore, the Electoral College was created and is considered to be a technique that makes it easier to elect a president and a vice president. The way it works is that each and every state gets electors. The amount of electors is the sum of the number of members the House and the Senate has. The states decided on how many electors are chosen. The Constitution felt it was the states responsibility to decide on the amount of electors. A few criticisms the Electoral College holds is that it has outlives its usefulness and that the campaigns place more focus on the swing states. Although many believe we should not use the Electoral College as a method for choosing a president, this method has been used for decades and it should continue to be used. For those, that want to put an end to this method of electing a president and a vice president it will not be easy. The Electoral College was created to make it easier in an organized manner on deciding who the president will be. A reason why the Electoral College exists is because it is in the Constitution. It is stated in Article 2 Section 1. Next, it can be said we are a Republic meaning we don't directly represent but rather represent indirectly. We have representatives that choose and represent for us. Again, in presidential elections we don't elect our president but we elect our representatives. Also, shutting down the method, Electoral College, most definitely would not change the problems of campaign focus. Even though, today, many disagree and feel the Electoral College only make things complicated and that it has outlived its usefulness. Nonetheless, those that are against the Electoral College will have a hard time trying to change it because this is written in the Constitution. The Electoral College simply made the process of electing a president and vice president much easier although it has loop holes. The loop hole being that in the future we may be faced in a situation where the president and the vice president can be from two different political parties and forced to work together.
